ResonNote (“the extension”) is an open-source Chrome extension maintained by Bobo Chen. This policy explains how the extension and this website (resonnote.bobochen.dev) handle data.
In short: the extension does not collect, upload, sell or share any data. Your notes live only in the extension's storage inside your own browser. There are no accounts, no servers, and no analytics or tracking.
1. Data the extension handles
When you record a moment (with the keyboard shortcut, the on-page “record this moment” button, or the toolbar icon), the extension reads and saves:
a screenshot of the video frame
the playback time in seconds
the line of dialogue (read from the subtitles shown on the web page)
the title, plus season and episode for series
the comment you write
the platform (Netflix, YouTube or Disney+) and the video ID, used to rebuild the link that takes you back to that moment
It also saves the time of your last backup locally, so it can remind you to back up.
All of this stays in the extension's own IndexedDB and extension storage (chrome.storage) inside your browser. It never leaves your computer, and the developer cannot see it.
2. No collection, upload, sale or sharing
No collection: the developer runs no server and receives none of your data.
No upload: notes, screenshots, dialogue and comments are not sent anywhere.
No sale or sharing: nothing is given to third parties, and nothing is used for advertising or for any purpose unrelated to the extension's features.
No accounts: there is nothing to sign up for or log in to.
No analytics or tracking: the extension contains no analytics, tracking or advertising code.
The use of information by this extension complies with theChrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
3. Network requests
The only places where the extension itself reads from the network are on Netflix pages, and they are read-only:
It fetches the title metadata of the current video from netflix.com. The request contains only the video ID. Because it is made inside the Netflix page, it carries the connection data your browser already has for netflix.com, exactly like the Netflix page's own requests.
It re-reads the seek-bar preview image file that the Netflix page has already loaded (the URL is taken from the page's own resource timing entries), as a fallback source for the picture.
Neither request contains any note content, and no data is sent to anywhere other than Netflix, or to the developer. On YouTube and Disney+ pages the extension makes no network requests. Clicking a timestamp in the notebook simply opens that platform's video URL in a new tab with your browser.
4. Why each permission is needed
activeTab
Captures the picture of the current tab when you press the shortcut or click the toolbar icon. Chrome grants it only for the tab you acted on.
storage unlimitedStorage
Keeps your notes, screenshots and the last-backup time locally in the browser. unlimitedStorage lifts the default local storage quota so many screenshots fit.
Shows the “record this moment” button on the playback pages of these three sites, and reads the playback time, subtitles and title.
The extension requests no other permissions and does not read pages outside these three sites.
5. Deleting and exporting your data
Delete: you can delete a single note in the notebook or in the recording window (press twice to confirm).
Export and backup: “Back up all” in the notebook saves a zip file and “Restore from backup” reads it back. You can also export image cards, a web page file or Markdown. These files are generated and downloaded on your own computer, without passing through any server.
Uninstalling the extension deletes all notes and images with it. Backups and exports you saved yourself are ordinary files and are not deleted.
6. This website
This website (resonnote.bobochen.dev) is a static site. It uses no cookies, includes no analytics or tracking tools, and loads no third-party scripts or fonts. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which may process ordinary connection logs under its own policy. Pages on GitHub that this site links to (source code, releases, issues) are handled by GitHub under its own policy.
